Goals for the New Year

Dear Reader,

Ok, that last post was as close as I’m gonna get to a “year in review” post. I just don’t like looking backwards that much. So let’s take a moment to look forward and set some goals.

  • Lose 30 lbs.
Yeah, I know it’s a cliche but I really want to drop 30 this year. These guys just opened up down the street, I think I’ll give them a try. Aside form the fact that they use ColdFusion for their website, they seem to be pretty cool.
  • One blog post per week in 2008.
Guess what, I’ve got the first week covered. Seriously, I’ve been real lax in posting here for the past year, mainly because most of my writing efforts go to DevZone. However, I do have several ideas that I want to discuss here that revolve around technology but are not necessarily related to PHP.
  • Write One new article per month.
With all the opportiunities I have to write, you would think this is a no brainer but like everything else, I get sidetracked on other projects. So I hope to post or have printed, one new article per month.
  • Another Book in 2008.
Ok, so my first book isn’t officially released yet but even so, it was all written in 2007. I’d like to come up with another idea and sell it to a publisher. I’m guessing my ability to do so is greatly dependent on the sales of my first book. So do me a favor…go order a copy.
  • A picture a day in 2008.
Inspired by people like Chris Wage, Andrei Zmievski, Sebastian Bergmann and Terry Chay, I really want to post one new picture per day in 2008…I’m already behind, this being Janyary 2nd and I’ve yet to post a picture. As soon as I finish this post, I’ll start figuring out what and where to shoot. Note: my goal is not to be as good as any of those four, just to post a new picture every day. I’m shooting for goals I can actually hit.
  • Learn a new language
The Lovely an Talented Kathy and I will be learning French this year.

So those are my goals for the year, only time will tell whether I can hit them. Hey, have you posted your goals for the year? let me know, I’ll link to them.

Until next time,
(l)(k)(bunny)

Cal, those look like they’ll keep you busy. Good luck.

If “working out every day” doesn’t work for you, you might try a different strategy. I’m more of a “death by a thousand cuts” guy… I try to make small changes one at a time until they sort of hit a critical mass.

I dropped sugared soda about two years ago, starting eating more healthily about a year ago, started some light balance/control exercises a few months ago, and plan to start cardio next. During that time, I’ve dropped almost 30 lbs and starting to get some definition back. Haven’t had that in years. ;)

    Good luck!

    Hi Keith!

No, not going to try to workout every day. I know I’ll never keep that up. I’m going to start w/2 days a week and by March I want to be up to 3 days a week.

I’ve dropped sodas but still drink a lot of Propell and Lipton tea in my water. (Not bottled water, filtered water, but that’s a whine for another day) I need to check them to see what their carb count is. Never paid attention it before.

    Thanks for commenting!

Water is addictive. I started drinking mostly water a few years ago and if you do that for a while, soda’s aren’t as nice anymore (way too sweet). Every once in a while I like a coke, but usually it’s water. Also my workout goal is 3 times a week, because I know that at least one of those I have to skip. Pas months I did a 1 time per week average so I guess I have to set my goal to 4 to be able to actually do at least 2. :)

Congrats on your goal to lose 30 lbs this year. I’ve lost almost 40 lbs in the past six months by following the Hacker’s Diet. Losing weight is hard work (I love to eat), but dropping the weight feels great. Good luck with your goal and Happy New Year!

    Goals for 2008…

Yesterday, Cal Evans blogged about his goals for the New Year, and a lot of them sound like the same things that have been going through my mind as my own personal goals. Well, I normally don’t make resolutions, and when I do think of things I w…

Moi parle le francais, j’ai apprenez francais por 5 ans, c’est laid!

    :P

There is no way I could do one picture per day… I just do too much of the same stuff – drive to work, work, come home, go to bed :P

I think I’d like to do some editing this year, personally :)
