Tequila Fruit Smoothies Recipe

Dear Reader,

Not that I drink a lot, but when I do, I am usually drinking with my wife, the lovely and talented Kathy. Last summer, I added a new drink to the list that she likes to drink. She does love a good Banana Banshee but that recipe is very high in fat and she’s on this health kick. So I started looking into new drinks.

Kathy loves a good strawberry margarita but again, there is a lot of sugar in margaritas so she doesn’t often drink them. Then a thought hit me, fruit is good, tequila makes everything better, why not mix the two but leave out all the artificial sugar and stuff. So, after spending no small amount of time mixing and matching fruits, I present you with the recipe for Kathy’s current favorite drink.

Tequila Fruit Smoothies

  • 10 large frozen strawberries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup Tequila (any 100% Agave will do I use the cheap stuff since we are mixing it here so taste isn’t really that important.) Adjust to taste. I’ve used as much as 1 1/2 cups and as little as 1/2 cup. 1 cup seems to be the sweet spot.
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • OPTIONAL: 1/2 jigger of lemon or lime juice

Place all the ingredients into the blender. I find that putting the fruit in first helps blend it better but if you have a good blender, it shouldn’t really matter.

Blend until a creamy consistency. The banana really adds to the creaminess. We tried it for a while with just the strawberries but it really lacked something. The lemon or lime juice gives it a little kick as an aftertaste. Don’t overdo it or it will overpower the taste of everything else.

This makes approximately 4 servings.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you are making these for yourself, do yourself a favor and pour half in a plastic container and freeze it somewhere where you can’t easily get to it. The reason being that it is difficult to taste the Tequila in this drink, therefore it is very easy to drink the entire blender full in say…an hour. Not that I’m saying that has happened or anything. ;)

Until next time,
I <3 |<
