Leadership is a skill, not a talent

Dear Reader,

Talents are special natural abilities or aptitudes.

Skills are abilities coming from one’s knowledge.

Leadership is a skill, not a talent. Anyone willing to learn and continually practice this skill. If Malcom Gladwell is right in Outliers, anyone willing to put in 10,000 hours of learning and practice being a leader, can become a world-class leader. That’s all it takes.

If you want to be a leader, do the work. Master the skill. Find projects at work or outside of work where you can practice leadership.

Don’t tell yourself you don’t have the talent to be a leader, no one does. But you can develop this skill. You can master the skill, and you have it in you to be the next world-class leader.

Until next time,
