Did I miss a memo? Scott Sigler, the author who has replaced Steven King as “guy I don’t want in my dreams” has started a marketing blog, “Does It Sell Stuff”??? Wait, that’s not the punch-line; the punch-line is that it’s GOOD! While Scott posts on his new venture infrequently (6 posts since August of 2007) the posts are always well written, insightful and always cover the burning question all of us trying to make money with Social Networking are dying to know, “Does It Sell Stuff?”. Here’s an excerpt from the first post.
This blog will not talk about the latest and greatest social media tool. For that, you just can’t beat Robert Scoble and TechCrunch. It won’t talk about manifestos, paradigm shifts or up-and-coming strategies. If you’ve got that kind of time, go check out people like Solis and Brian Oberkirch.
Me? I’m boring. I just want to know what works. Stay tuned to this blog, and I’ll share that information with you.
Dammit Scott, seriously, you have a full-time job, best selling books and great podcasts; leave some room for the rest of us, ok?
Seriously, if you are into “new media”, “social media” or what we used to just call “trying to make money on the web” Scott’s new venture is a must read. Thankfully, there are no chicken sheers involved.
w00t! I’m featured on a short segment on CC Chapman’s “Managing The Gray”. My segment, “The 60 second tech” is at the very end of “How to Break Into New Media as a Career”.
Do me a favor, drop by CC’s site and let him know how much you appreciate him adding my segment to his already wonderful podcast. Be truthful and honest when you tell him that “60 Second Tech” is a great way to cap off his insights into…whatever he happens to be talking about at the moment. (If you don’t subscribe to his podcast, you really need to…it’s one of the ones I wait for each week)
I figure with all my friends and family posting, we may can get 2 maybe even 3 positive comments! :)
Wow, never thought I’d say those words but yes, I work in the marketing department of Zend now. (I’ve been advised that I probably need to steer clear of terms like marketing shill and the ilk) As such, to please my new overlords, I’m trying to learn as much as I can about marketing and advertising. I don’t know where you turn for cutting edge advertising advice but I always turn to my buddy Fred Following a link off of Fred’s blog this morning, I came across this video.
Now, I don’t normally identify myself an an Evolutionist, I’m pretty much dead center in the Creationist camp. But in this case, I’ll capitulate and say that after watching this video, I’m a WOM Evolutionist.
