Leaders lead, even when they are out of their comfort zone

Dear Reader,

Recently I was privileged to sit down and talk leadership with my good friend and mentor Laura Thomson. One of the topics we discussed was “leading when things are going bad”.

Our conversation spans everything from “your company has been hit with a public relations disaster” to “Your company has been hit with a natural disaster”.

One of the underlying themes in the conversation though is “you don’t get a pass, just because something bad happened”. It is precisely at that time – when things are bad –  that leaders are needed the most.

There are no safe spaces for leaders. Leaders don’t get a comfort zone. If you are a leader you lead when things are good and you lead when things are bad.

Until next time,

Book is Available, Support Site is Live

Dear Reader,

Well, my first book, php|architect’s Guide to Programming with Zend Framework has officially been released in PDF format. You can order it now or pre-order the dead-tree edition. (Cal is a happy camper)

I would be remiss if I did not say thank you once again to Marco, Elizabeth and Matthew for their help and guidance. Also, a huge thank you to Laura Thomson for writing the forward.

On a related note, the support site for the book, www.zfguide.com is now live. Currently, the only thing there are links to the source code examples but I have plans for posting any errata, discussing different parts of the book and eventually releasing a series of tutorials called “The Missing Chapters”. (because there was a lot I just didn’t get to cover)

Until next time,
